This program is designed to support Microenterprise Development Organizations (MDOs) with loans and grants aimed at the startup and growth of microenterprises, particularly in rural areas. It focuses on two main activities: creating a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund to assist microenterprises financially and providing training and technical assistance to microloan borrowers and micro-entrepreneurs to ensure their success and sustainability. Eligible MDOs should have experience with Revolving Loan Funds or the capacity to manage them, as evidenced by relevant training or participation in similar loan programs, such as the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Microloan Program. The program offers grants up to $205,000 annually for technical assistance to rural micro-entrepreneurs or microenterprises, with a requirement for at least 15 percent matching funds from grantees.
