The mission of the Alabama State Council on the Arts is to enhance the quality of life and economic vitality for all Alabamians by providing support for the state’s diverse and rich artistic resources.
The grant program's broad goals include nurturing excellence, professionalism, multiculturalism, and audience access across various visual arts disciplines with origins or impact in Alabama. Supported disciplines include painting, sculpture, crafts, printmaking, design, photography, and media. The program supports activities by museums, galleries, art centers, and other visual arts organizations, with a preference for projects emphasizing the work of professional Alabama artists. The Consolidated Project Grant allows for a single application covering several related projects, whether new or existing, supporting special constituency access, conservation, exhibition planning, artist residencies, educational activities, commissioning Alabama artists, and enhancing organizational professional growth. Criteria for evaluation include artistic excellence, cultural heritage, community support, educational benefits, diversity, accessibility, and potential long-term impact.
