This grant program is designed to assist eligible communities in preparing for or recovering from emergencies that threaten the availability of safe, reliable drinking water. Events that can qualify as emergencies include but are not limited to droughts, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, disease outbreaks, and chemical spills. Funding may be utilized for a range of needs, such as water transmission line grants up to $150,000 for constructing waterline extensions or repairing breaks in existing water distribution lines and water source grants up to $1,000,000 to construct water sources, intake, or treatment facilities. The overarching aim is to prevent damage or restore access to clean, reliable drinking water in rural areas and towns affected by natural disasters, thereby supporting the natural environment and promoting economic development.
