The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants program assists communities in preparing for or recovering from an emergency that compromises the availability of safe, reliable drinking water. Emergencies that qualify include droughts, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes, disease outbreaks, chemical spills, leaks, or seepage, among other disasters. A federal disaster declaration is not required for eligibility. The program offers water transmission line grants up to $150,000 and water source grants up to $1,000,000. The funds are intended for the construction or repair of waterline extensions, addressing leaks in water distribution lines, water source construction, or the establishment of intake or treatment facilities. This initiative aims to prevent damage or restore clean water access to households and businesses in rural areas following natural disasters, ultimately improving the natural environment and promoting economic growth by encouraging business operations.
