Through the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program Wetland Reserve Easements (ACEP-WRE), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) aims to support private landowners and Indian tribes in restoring, protecting, and enhancing wetlands on their property. The program highlights the multifaceted value of wetlands, including their role in providing wildlife habitat, improving water quality, reducing flood risks, recharging groundwater, preserving biodiversity, and offering educational and recreational opportunities. Financial and technical assistance is provided to participants for easement purchase and restoration efforts. The program offers diverse enrollment options, including permanent easements, 30-year easements, term easements specific to state laws, and 30-year contracts exclusively for Indian tribe-owned lands, with varied levels of financial support for easement purchase and restoration costs.
