The broad goals of the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) include protecting the agricultural viability and related conservation values of eligible land by restricting nonagricultural uses, supporting grazing uses and conservation, and enhancing wetlands. ACEP focuses specifically on conserving eligible grazing land, protecting and restoring wetlands, and maintaining the land's agricultural purposes. Additionally, the Wetland Reserve Easements component of the program offers technical and financial assistance to private landowners and Indian tribes to restore, protect, and enhance wetlands through various easement options, including permanent easements, 30-year easements, term easements, and a 30-year contract option specifically for Indian tribe-owned acreage. This assistance aims to protect biological diversity, improve water quality, reduce flooding, and recharge groundwater while supporting habitats for fish and wildlife, including threatened and endangered species.
