The Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) aims to preserve the viability of agricultural lands by limiting non-agricultural uses that affect its usage and conservation value. It focuses on protecting grazing lands and their conservation values and enhancing wetlands on eligible lands. Wetlands Reserve Easements (WRE) specifically assist private and tribal landowners in protecting, restoring, and enhancing wetlands previously degraded by agricultural activities. Benefits include habitat provision for wildlife, water quality improvement, flood reduction, groundwater recharge, biodiversity protection, climate resilience, and opportunities for education and limited recreation. Enrollment options for WRE include permanent easements, 30-year easements, term easements, and 30-year contracts (exclusive to Indian tribes), with varying payment and restoration cost coverage percentages.
