This grant program is designed to support nonprofit organizations working on issues related to hazardous waste and toxic substances in the State of California. It emerges from a legal settlement related to improper hazardous waste disposal practices by the Dish Network California Service Corporation. Grants are available for established nonprofits in the range of $20,000 to $25,000 and for smaller grassroots organizations in the range of $5,000 to $7,500, focusing on activities such as educational workshops on hazardous waste disposal, community awareness about waste impacts, prevention and mitigation of hazardous waste contamination, and testing for hazardous waste levels in disadvantaged communities. Projects aimed at improving environmental health and safety through various means, including education, mitigation, and contamination testing, are eligible for funding.
