Nevada Civil Money Penalty Funds

From Nevada Department of Health and Human Services

Civil money penalties (CMPs) are fines imposed on nursing facilities that do not meet federal health and safety standards. The State of Alaska receives a portion of the funds collected to reinvest in projects that enhance the quality of life and/or care of nursing facility residents. The mission revolves around encouraging the submission of grant applications for quality improvement initiatives that directly or indirectly benefit nursing facility residents, through the use of evidence-based practices.

The grant program aims to support Nevada facilities or organizations applying for reinvestment dollars from civil penalties. These funds are intended for the development and implementation of quality improvement projects that benefit nursing facility residents, focusing on initiatives outside the scope of normal facility operations. Allowable uses of the funds include assistance for residents in facilities that close or are decertified, support for resident and family councils, facility improvement initiatives, training to enhance care quality, projects that boost quality of life and social interaction, in-person visitation aids, and communicative technology for resident use. These projects should demonstrate the use of current and sound evidence-based practices to promote better care and life quality for nursing facility residents.
