The EGLE Recycling Unit's grant program aims to bolster recycling infrastructure projects across Michigan. The program's objectives include increasing access to recycling infrastructure with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the state, boosting the collection and processing capacity of recyclable materials, and raising the participation rate in established recycling programs. Priority is given to projects that demonstrate significant potential increases in processing or collection capacity, incorporate sustainable funding, offer robust education on recycling, engage in partnerships with other organizations, leverage additional funding from sources like the U.S. EPA or local foundations, contribute to the Governor’s climate change priorities through tangible reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and provide benefits to environmental justice communities or underserved populations.
