The Wildlife Conservation Board protects, restores and enhances California’s spectacular natural resources for wildlife and for the public’s use and enjoyment in partnership with conservation groups, government agencies and the people of California.
The grant program is managed according to "The Wildlife Conservation Law of 1947" and focuses on land acquisition as a key component of wildlife conservation efforts. Administered by the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB), it supports the acquisition of real property or rights in real property for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and can also fund other governmental or nonprofit organizations for similar purposes. All acquisitions are done on a "willing seller" basis based on fair market value appraisals. The process involves a thorough evaluation of the biological values of properties, setting acquisition priorities, and could typically span 6 to 12 months. This program ensures strategic land conservation efforts in conjunction with CDFW’s objectives and priorities.
