The American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) aims to advance scientific knowledge to improve poultry health, well-being, and productivity, thereby ensuring a safe and abundant global food supply. Since its inception in 1957, AAAP has served as a platform for those involved in avian disease research and management, facilitating knowledge exchange through conferences, publications, and educational materials, while also supporting the next generation of poultry medicine specialists through scholarships and awards.
The Reed Rumsey Award for Advancement of Avian Medicine is designed to support outstanding students in the field of avian medicine. Named after Reed Rumsey, a former president of the AAAP who bequeathed funds for this purpose, the award aims to foster the advancement of avian medicine. It offers competitive financial awards to selected students in addition to any stipend from their academic institution, initially set at $1,000 plus travel expenses to the AAAP meeting. The AAAP Board allows for up to two awards annually to students engaged in either basic or clinical research in avian diseases.
