The mission of the American Arachnological Society (AAS) is to further the study of Arachnids, foster closer cooperation and understanding between amateur and professional arachnologists, and publish the Journal of Arachnology. This is achieved through hosting annual meetings for the exchange of research and ideas, supporting arachnology studies through grants for research and travel, recognizing student contributions, and providing information on graduate studies. Additionally, the society publishes a refereed research journal and other educational materials on spiders in North America.

The American Arachnological Society offers various grants to support arachnological research:

Non-student Research Grants - Herb Levi Memorial Fund for Arachnological Research: This fund supports non-student AAS members, including post-docs with limited or no institutional research support. It is primarily intended as seed money for fieldwork and preliminary data gathering for future grants.
Student Research Grants:

Arachnological Research Fund: Supports undergraduate or graduate student AAS members working on the behavior, ecology, physiology, or evolution of arachnids. Funding can be used for field and laboratory work, museum research, supplies, specimen identification, and publication preparation.
Vincent Roth Fund for Systematics Research: Assists undergraduate or graduate students focused on the taxonomy or systematics of arachnids, offering support for field work, museum research, supplies, specimen identification, and publication preparation.

These grants aim to facilitate research and scholarly activities among arachnologists at various stages of their careers, from students to professionals without substantial institutional support.
