Home Depot Donation Request: Which Home Depot Foundation Grants Are Open in 2026 and Who Qualifies

Home Depot does not have a public donation request program for events, raffles, or general nonprofit needs. Its giving goes through The Home Depot Foundation, which focuses on veteran housing, skilled-trades training, and disaster recovery. As of October 2026, nonprofits can apply for two Foundation grants through the online portal at foundation.homedepot.com: Path to Pro Education Grants, worth up to $10,000 in Home Depot gift cards for schools and nonprofits that run construction trades programs, and Veteran Housing Grants, worth $100,000 to $500,000 for multifamily housing for veterans. If you were hoping for a gift card or products for a fundraiser, Home Depot is the wrong ask, and the retailers at the end of this guide are better bets.

Path to Pro Education Grants: the answer for schools and trades nonprofits

If you're asking whether Home Depot donates to schools, this is the program. The Foundation awards up to $10,000 in Home Depot gift cards for tools, products, equipment, and new or remodeled training spaces in construction skilled-trades programs, with an emphasis on carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and construction management.

To qualify, your organization must:

• Be an accredited K-12 school, an accredited community or technical college, or a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with an existing program focused on training, job placement, or career readiness for the skilled trades.
• Be based in the United States.
• Have a current operating budget of at least $300,000 and audited financial statements for the past three years. Schools may submit exemption documentation instead.

The program does not fund events and fundraisers, recreation or sports teams, scholarships or tuition, endowments, organizations less than three years old, or programs that only support four-year degrees. Each organization can submit one request.

On timing, Home Depot says it is accepting applications now but will not make new awards until February 2027; anything submitted before then is considered at that point. A separate track serves organizations within 60 miles of Los Angeles. Both are listed on the Path to Pro Education Grants page, and questions go to Education_Grants@HomeDepot.com.

Veteran Housing Grants: for established housing developers

Veteran Housing Grants are the Foundation's largest awards, typically $100,000 to $500,000, and they pay only for the physical construction or rehabilitation of multifamily, permanent supportive housing for veterans. The eligibility rules screen out most nonprofits. Your organization needs:

• 501(c)(3) status in good standing for at least five years, a current operating budget of at least $300,000, and audited financial statements for the past three years.
• Experience developing veteran housing, and veteran-specific housing that you currently own or manage.
• An ownership stake in the development of 15 years or more, and involvement in your local Continuum of Care or a similar collaboration to end homelessness.

The project must reserve at least 20% of its units for veterans, serve honorably discharged veterans at or below 80% of area median income, have 75% of its funding identified when you apply, start within 12 months, and keep the Foundation's share under half of total development cost. Priority goes to large cities, especially Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, Houston, Detroit, San Diego, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, and Tampa.

Proposals are accepted year-round and decided three times a year. The 2026 deadlines (December 12, 2025, March 20, 2026, and July 3, 2026) have passed, and Home Depot had not posted its 2027 dates as of October 2026, so a proposal submitted now is queued for the next cycle. Single-home repairs don't qualify. Home Depot refers those requests to the national nonprofits it already funds, listed on its partnerships page.

Veterans are the Foundation's biggest commitment: it has invested more than $650 million in veteran causes since 2011, improving more than 70,000 veteran homes and facilities, and has pledged to reach $750 million by 2030.

Retool Your School: campus grants for colleges

Retool Your School funds campus improvement projects at colleges and universities, with a focus on HBCUs. The 2026 program offered Campus Improvement Grants valued at $200,000 and Innovation Lounge Grants valued at $75,000. Only an employee of the school can apply, and only during the open window. In 2026 that window ran from May 11 to June 7, and the recipients have been announced, so watch retoolyourschool.com for the 2027 cycle.

Path to Pro scholarships: for individual students

Students entering a trade college or postsecondary trades program can apply for a Path to Pro Scholarship, run with the SkillPointe Foundation. What happened to Home Depot Community Impact Grants?

Many guides, including some updated in 2026, still describe Community Impact Grants of up to $5,000 in Home Depot gift cards for volunteer-led community projects. Home Depot no longer lists that program. Its grants page now shows only Veteran Housing Grants, Retool Your School, and Path to Pro Education Grants, and the old Community Impact Grants page returns an access-denied error. Unless the Foundation brings it back, don't plan a project around it.

Can you ask a local Home Depot store for a donation?

Home Depot does not publish a store-level donation request form, a gift card program for fundraisers, or criteria for local asks on its corporate site. Its local community work runs through Team Depot, the company's associate volunteer force, which focuses on veterans' homes and disaster recovery and has worked with more than 15,000 nonprofits since 2011. Associates sign up for projects through an internal Home Depot portal, and Home Depot doesn't publish a way for nonprofits to request one. Disaster relief also runs through national partners such as Team Rubicon, Convoy of Hope, and the American Red Cross.

How to apply through The Home Depot Foundation grant portal

Home Depot's grant programs take applications through its online portal, so you won't need a donation request letter for them.

1. Confirm you qualify. The budget, audit, and track-record requirements above rule out many small nonprofits, so check them before you register. Keep your 501(c)(3) determination letter and recent audits ready.
2. Register at foundation.homedepot.com. If you have applied before, use "Forgot Password" with the email from your earlier application rather than creating a new account.
3. Start a new application and choose the program, such as the Path to Pro Education Grant, or the Veteran Housing Grant for the cycle you want.

Better bets for gift cards and raffle prizes

Costco approves the largest share of these: about 27% of Costco donation requests tracked on TheShareWay succeed. Walmart says yes less often, but its donations run larger.
